The Last Supper

180x300cm Oil on Canvas

The Last Supper Race is my largest and most ambitious painting to date—a deeply personal reinterpretation of Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic The Last Supper, reimagined through the lens of Formula 1 history. At the center of the composition sits Ayrton Senna, a figure who transcends the sport and has long been my personal hero. Surrounding him are twelve other legendary F1 drivers, each chosen for the lasting mark they left on motorsport and culture.

This painting is not just a gathering of greats—it’s a visual symphony of rivalry, respect, and legacy. Drivers from different eras share a single moment frozen in time, positioned with subtle gestures and glances that hint at stories both well-known and personal. Their expressions were the most challenging part to capture, especially since many of the reference photos were in black and white. To portray them faithfully, I spent three months researching their countries of origin, facial structures, and personalities—studying old race footage, interviews, and biographies. Only after that did I spend another three months completing the painting, stroke by stroke.

The setting is filled with deliberate choices. Behind each driver hangs the banner of a team they are strongly associated with—Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, Lotus, Aston Martin, and more—framing the figures in their racing legacies. The window behind Senna opens to a modern racetrack, grounding the classical scene in the adrenaline-charged world of motorsport. Piles of tires and scattered track elements flank the scene, replacing biblical relics with symbols of speed and struggle.

Scattered along the table are racing artifacts, wine bottles, gloves, helmets, and other playful nods to F1 lore. Look closely and you’ll find hidden details—some humorous, others poetic—waiting to be discovered. Every object, every color choice, and every shadow carries intention.

This piece is more than a tribute—it’s a meditation on time, greatness, and the human stories behind the helmets. I hope viewers can feel the energy, tension, and reverence embedded in this gathering of champions, and perhaps be reminded of why we fall in love with racing in the first place.
