The Ten Pin Cellar

180x120cm Oil On Canvas

The Ten Pin Cellar captures a moment where reality loosens its grip and imagination takes over. Suspended in mid-air is the complete and elusive Romanée-Conti family — a gathering so rare it feels almost mythical. Each bottle is painted with quiet devotion, floating like guardians of a legacy, shimmering with stories that have travelled through hands, time, and memory.

Into this dreamscape rolls a black bowling ball, polished and intentional. It moves not with aggression, but with purpose — a symbol of the collector’s perfect strike. Completing such a family is not chance; it is persistence, obsession, and love. The ball becomes a gesture of triumph, a playful wink to the impossible achievement behind it.

The cellar stretches into an almost otherworldly stage, its reflections glowing, its perspective lines pulling the viewer deeper into the scene. Light bends, shadows soften, and time pauses — as if the universe is holding its breath. And within this magical stillness, colour erupts. This is the most colourful painting I have ever created, and every shade felt like a release. The palette swirls with joy, emotion, and freedom, turning the solemnity of a cellar into a celebration of being alive.

There is a gentle irony woven through it all. These vessels of tradition and prestige — usually guarded, hushed, untouchable — are caught in a moment of play. Luxury meets laughter. Stillness meets motion. Reverence meets exuberance.
